RecentFollow Review (2026): It Vanished in June, Then Came Back

RecentFollow (recentfollow.app) was a free Instagram follower viewer: enter a public username, see the account's followers and following lists sorted by recency, with a gender breakdown of the audience as its signature extra. At our June 12, 2026 live check, RecentFollow's viewer no longer existed; it came back in a reduced form by August 25. Its tool pages, including the follower-viewer page that ranked prominently in search as recently as the day before, returned 404, and recentfollow.app's homepage served an unrelated wellness-themed page with no Instagram tooling at all. The domain itself is still registered, created March 10, 2026, three months before the viewer vanished (ICANN Lookup), and still resolves (Google Public DNS); only the tool was gone. If you came here asking whether RecentFollow still works, the dated, observable answer is: it did not on June 12, and it does again as of August 25; see the update directly below, and the June timeline further down for what happened in between.

Update, August 25, 2026: recentfollow.app is back online. At today's re-check the homepage loads with the title "Recent Follow | Recent Follow Instagram Tracker" (page marked "Last updated: August 15, 2026"), describes itself as a tracker that "identifies newly observed accounts in a public Instagram profile's following list by comparing publicly available data over time," states that it "does not need your Instagram password for public username checks," offers a free tier of "3 free tracks," and links an iOS app, "Recent Follow Tracker App," on the App Store. That is a narrower product than the June viewer (recent follows only, no follower list, and we did not see the gender-breakdown feature), and we have not yet run a full hands-on test of the relaunched version. The June 12 disappearance documented below was real and is left in place as the dated record; the verdict now is "back, reduced, and unproven," not "gone."

What was RecentFollow?

Based on the site's own published copy before the removal, RecentFollow was a web-based Instagram follower viewer: type any public Instagram handle and it displayed the account's follower and following lists with the most recently added entries first, showing usernames, full names, and profile photos. No Instagram login or password was requested, results loaded in the browser, and its one genuinely distinctive feature was an AI-powered gender breakdown of a profile's follower and following lists, a quick male-to-female audience ratio no other free viewer in this lane offered. It positioned itself on exactly the promise this whole category competes on: recency-sorted follower data for any public account, anonymously.

What happened to it?

Here is what we can verify, with dates:

• June 11, 2026: RecentFollow's follower-viewer page was live, fully indexed, and surfacing in search results for follower-viewer queries, complete with feature descriptions and an FAQ.
• June 12, 2026: every tool path we tested on recentfollow.app, including the follower-viewer URL that had been ranking, returned 404. At that check the homepage no longer mentioned Instagram viewing at all; it served a minimal wellness page about "online boundaries" with no operator, contact, or company information.

Why it vanished is unverifiable: the site published no ownership details before the change and no explanation after it. What we can say is that the pattern is familiar. This is the same category where InstaNavigation's domain stopped resolving in DNS entirely, where AnonyIG and StoriesIG served US visitors legal-block pages in June, all documented in our anonymous Instagram viewers review. Free viewer sites in this space appear, monetize, attract legal or platform pressure, and disappear without notice. RecentFollow vanishing for two months, then returning in a different form, is the category working as usual.

Was RecentFollow safe to use?

By the two tests that matter most in this category, RecentFollow scored reasonably while it existed: it never asked for your Instagram login or password, and it made no private-account access claims in the copy we reviewed, both automatic-fail red flags it avoided. The standard caveats applied, as they do to every free viewer: the site itself could log your IP address and the usernames you searched, and with no published operator information there was no accountability for that data. The question is now moot for RecentFollow specifically, but the checklist transfers to whatever viewer you consider next: never enter your Instagram password into a third-party site, treat private-account promises as a scam signal, and assume your lookups are visible to the site operator even when they're invisible to the person you're looking up.
