How to see who someone recently followed on Instagram

Instagram hides the order of follows on purpose
Open any profile's Following list in the app and you get the full list — but sorted by Instagram's own relevance logic, with no dates and no sort control. A follow made last night can sit hundreds of rows down, indistinguishable from one made three years ago.
The manual workaround is a baseline-and-compare routine: screenshot the list today, screenshot it again next week, hunt for the difference. It works for an account following 80 people and falls apart at 800. What that routine does badly, software does well — record the public list, keep the dated versions, and surface the changes. The public/private boundary is Instagram's own: on a public profile the following list is visible to anyone, on a private one only to approved followers (see Instagram's help page on public and private accounts). Tools claiming to reveal private accounts or recover deleted data are either scams or credential harvesters. IGDetective operates entirely within Instagram's platform terms using only publicly available data.

How do I see who someone recently followed on Instagram?

Instagram's own app does not sort the Following list by date, which is why this view exists.
Can I see who someone recently followed if their account is private?
No. This works for public Instagram profiles only. On a private account the following list is visible only to approved followers (Instagram documents the split in its help page on public and private accounts), so it is not public data and no legitimate tool can show it — any service claiming to reveal a private account's recent follows is either fraudulent or operating outside Instagram's platform terms.

How recent is “recent”?
The preview shows the most recent follows visible on the public profile at the moment you look it up, newest first. Once you start tracking a profile, every new follow, new follower, and unfollow from that point on is logged with its date, so “recent” becomes a dated timeline rather than a snapshot.
What is the difference between recent follows, recent followers, and mutuals?
Recent follows are accounts the profile recently started following (outbound). Recent followers are accounts that recently started following the profile (inbound). Mutuals are accounts where the two follow each other. This page opens on Recent Follows; the other two views are one tab over on the same widget.
