Instagram doesn't show the order of follows
Open any profile's Following list in the app and you get the full list with no dates and no sort control, and since September 9, 2026 its order no longer reflects when each follow happened.

Recent follows on Instagram: common questions
How do I see who someone recently followed on Instagram?
Type their public username into the box at the top of this page. IGDetective lists the accounts that profile recently started following, each dated by day, with no Instagram login. Instagram's own app shows no dates on someone else's Following list.
Can I see who someone recently followed if their account is private?
No. IGDetective works on public accounts only. On a private account the following list is visible only to approved followers (Instagram documents the split in its help page on public and private accounts). Direct messages are never visible either, and a new follow shows that it happened, not why.
Is there a free way to see recent follows on Instagram?
The check on this page is free: type a public username and see what IGDetective can reveal for that account, with no Instagram login. Will the person know I looked at who they recently followed?
No. Your Instagram account is never used, so there is no Instagram login, no follow, no view event, and no notification on their side.
Does Instagram show when someone followed an account?
No. Instagram shows another account's Following list with no dates, and since its update on September 9, 2026 the list order does not mean recency. IGDetective dates each new follow by day, so you get dated follows instead of an undated list.
How recent is “recent”?
Recent means new since you started tracking: tracking starts the day you add the account. Each new follow is dated the day it is first seen, and accounts they already followed before that are not shown as recent.
What is the difference between recent follows, recent followers, and mutuals?
Recent follows are accounts the profile recently started following (outbound). Recent followers are accounts that recently started following the profile (inbound). Mutuals are accounts where the two follow each other. Type a username above to see what IGDetective can show you for that account.
Can I see who my boyfriend or partner recently followed on Instagram?
